Microsoft, the biggest name in the information technology industry came up with a few noticeable developments this year. After the tiff with Bing, Nokia and Microsoft entered a strategic alliance in February that would make Windows Phone 7 Nokia's primary smartphone platform. Then, Google officially launched Google Cloud Connect for Microsoft Office in February, a tool that lets users simultaneously edit any Office document via the cloud. Also Internet Explorer 9 was launched which was downloaded 2.35 million times. Then Microsoft went and acquired Skype for a whopping $8.5 Billion. Also Microsoft Office 365 was launched and Windows 8 was revealed.
Android was also seen climbing the charts of popularity this year and is now one of the most favorite mobile OS available. The year 2011 saw almost 4 versions from Android- Honeycomb 3.0, Honeycomb 3.1, Honeycomb 3.2 and Ice Cream Sandwich. All the versions had something new and exciting to add to the previous one.
Another big news of 2011 was the iOS 5. Apple came out with a new operating system for all its devices which was appreciated right from the beginning. The highlights of the new features include: Non-obstructive Notifications, Newsstand, Deep Twitter Integration, Safari Improvements, Reminders, More Camera features, New Keyboard and much more.
Google on the other hand ventured in the social media industry and came up with Google +, a new social media site that became an instant hit. It also introduced the Google Brand Pages that helped people come closer to the brand names that people love most.
